Hons and Rebels Jessica Mitford

It is funny – the sort of book you can just immerse yourself in. This month, political party conference season has been coupled with the return of political comedy The Thick of It – so I've been having some quick and disjointed thoughts about women and contemporary UK politics. (Also published as Hons and Rebels.) It's another interesting view of the family. Have you read Jessica Mitford's memoir Daughters and Rebels? Haven't you read Hons And Rebels? The episode my sister and I attended is airing on Sunday evening 7:30pm EST. People like Harold Wilson & Enoch Powell were Rt Hons: clever, but their worst enemies wouldn't have called them posh. Has everyone been watching Oprah's Aussie Adventure? Her memoirs Hons and Rebels and A Fine Old Conflict linked the Mitford universe of debutantes and Bright Young Things to the American Civil Rights movement and the House Committee on Un-American Activities. It's silly and farcical and well worth a read. Decca seated age 6, with Unity age 9. She would resent her parents for not allowing her a formal education., yet her Hons and Rebels leaves any sensitive Anglophile longing for ties to that Mitford family. Any book by a Mitford is bound to be hilarious, whether factual or fiction, I find! My favourites are 'Hons and Rebels', the first volume of Jessica Mitford's memoirs, and 'The Mitfords: Letters Between Six Sisters', edited by Charlotte Mosley. Celebration and remorse were both in the air. I think they changed the name in the US to Daughters & Rebels. Rifleman Lebatlang, who was buried with military hon-ours, was one of the thirteen sol-diers killed after the rebels am-bushed them at their base out-side Bangui, the capital city of the CAR. I am reading an absolutely brilliant, hilarious book I want to recommend: Jessica Mitford's Hons and Rebels .
